Introduction

The Philips EE series of kits have been developed by Philips Electronics from the sixties (the EE5/EE10 and EE8/EE20) till the eighties (EE3000) in various forms, and became very popular in various European countries, notably Germany and the Netherlands. Initially these kits were used to promote Philips-produced electronic parts to hobbyists, but at the end of the sixties the focus shifted towards educational purposes: the kits were intended to interest teenagers in studying electronics. As a result the series gradually developed into the most advanced electronic experimentation kit type that has been available ever, with designs that include several superhet radios, an oscilloscope and even a TV! My Collection

The pictures below show a part of my collection (consisting of all EE2000 kits except EE2007/8, all EE2001 kits, extra EE2005, EE2016 and EE2017 kits, and the PE1500 and PE1540 Physics kits), a detailed view on it, and a an example of a construction (a short-wave radio.design from the EE2003 kit that I slightly improved).

I myself literally grew up with the EE2000 and EE2001 series of kits, and spent a lot of time experimenting until I attended university. Two years ago I rediscovered the kits after more than twenty years and this discovery resulted in a restart of the electronics hobby. As I understand the designs much better now than I did twenty years ago as a teenager, I have gained some experience both in building and tuning the constructions, and I wrote down some enhancements. Currently I am still experimenting (focussing a bit on receiver designs), and occasionally I try to design completely new electronic devices, sometimes in cooperation with my oldest son Joost who has his share of EE-kits as well (EE2003, EE2004, EE2010 and EE2015).
